I can't quite decide either.

I find the block of trees on the right a bit heavy and they do not contribute to the angular lines in the image.

I had a bit of a play and cropped a bit...still not confident that it is better though. When I cropped, the two trees with the sticky branches help give and angular line which is sort of inversely mirrored by the line in the snow. When cropped this way, I think the way my brain sorts out the perspective and location of the two sticky trees, combined with the perspective of the paddock and line on the snow - and all the different resultant implied angles, makes it a more interesting image for me.

Thanks for the effort.   Better than the original but I think that is about the limit of the photo.  I think I'm going to end up binning it.

I don't have an image editor with me right now, but I would:
1) warp the image to straighten the line of the tree line to be a perfect horizon
2) crop as much of the sky as possible without getting too close to the silhouette of the trees...the sky currently detracts
3) crop the bottom of the image to show only a narrow strip of cornfield (or whatever the farm crop is)

I think the image will work better in an exagerated wide format.

actually, I think I prefer this. cropped some more and fooled with color saturation.  Since there is so little color, you need to really pump it up, but I don't think it is overly insincere since there is still very little color in the image.

Thanks for the efforts.  If I convert it with ACR I get a touch of color in the corn field.  (Not much.)  I'll have to play around with it some more this evening.

The sky definitely needs to go.  Not so sure about the field.

It sure is a lot easier to crop someone elses image.  I started cropping and went crop happy.  I actually like this version.  I know it is not what you are after, but I really like the contrasty silhouette of the trees.  I think that is the strength of the image.

I know how it feels when you crop an image down and watch your final print size dwindle....on the bright side, with a contrasty silhouette, it could be up-rezed pretty easily.
