New Canon Printers

Has anyone seen any online reviews of the new Canon pigment ink printers announced at PMA? I am very curious.

It is good to see Canon & HP giving Epson some competition in this space -- It will keep Epson honest!!

I understand that even review samples have not shipped yet.

Once the reviews from the usual reliable sources appear, my five benchmarks for switching from Epson to Canon:

- wider gamut;
- at least as good overall print quality (colour, detail, tonality etc.)
- wide range of quality media;
- no swapping of ink tanks with change of media;
- less clogging/ink drops.

I didn't mention cost because I assume these guys are savvy enough to price the equipment and the supplies competitively.

Let us see what we shall see.

I assume that print longevity also matters, right?

Eric, I think longevity is a given - these printers will be using pigmented inks; that said, however, yes - one assumes/hopes there will be some Wilhelm ratings and those should be of interest.

I am interested in machine longevity.

Until I bought my 2200, every Canon/HP/Epson printer (admittedly consumer grade) I ever owned lasted less than 2-years.

I think Epson improved, but I don't know about the others.

Hp had okay longevity if you used their ink on their paper.  Canon had okay longevity if you gave them a nice, smooth coating of concrete about 3 feet thick.

These new canons and the new Hp are all going to pigment ink so longevity is going to go way up.

The new Hp is getting the highest Wilhelm (sp?) numbers yet.   Still looking forward to seeing a review of that one.

Which inks are rated highly? The new pigment ink printer wont be available except to reviewers for the next month or so! I expect to be givng a report as soon as I get one!

I have just acquired an 8750 and wonder what people use for matte especially B&W?  So, does anyone know if there is an equivalent HP paper to Epson Matte Heavyweight?
