I am pretty new to this digital imaging game and have started processing images using PS Elements 4. I quite like the idea of being able to use curves but am unwilling to pay for CS2 just to get this function. A web search has shown that there are a number of free plug ins for Elements 1,2,and 3 which offer curves but I can only find one which seems to be compatible with version 4. This is a plug in called Curvemeister, which sells for 80 USD and seems to me to be a lot to pay simply to get curves.
I am also wondering if the purchase of Capture 1 LE which has curves control on it would make sense. This would of course give me access to a very good RAW convertor as well.
Any opinions or advice would be gratefully received.
Well, Curvemeister is more than just a curve tool. You can read a review [a href=\"http://www.outbackphoto.com/workflow/wf_32/essay.html]here[/url]. There's a demo version available for download
. I guess that most of the free plugins will do what you require and Curvemeister might be too "extreme" for your needs.
As for Capture One, a demo is also available (here
). At $99, it is more expensive than Curvemeister and since you already have a RAW converter in PS Element, I would not consider it unless your experiments are very positive.
