2100/2200 driver query re profile

I've just noticed that when I change the print space profile in Photoshop 'print with preview', nothing seems to change at the printer end. For example, in Photoshop I select a Hahnemuhle profile. I then go to 'print' and check the 'summary'. Everything is normal there - archival matte selected as media type, No Colour Adjustment etc. I then scroll down to the bottom and under 'Colorsync' it says Profile - SP2100 Standard MK. Shouldn't this instead show the profile I selected in Photoshop? Can anyone advise?

Forget what ColorSync says, it's basically broken (useless). Do the color management in Photoshop (Print with Preview). Stay away from the driver or invoking anything that calls ColorSync. At this point, it's simply showing you the preferred profile ColorSync could use if you let it (and you don't).

Apple has positively made ColorSync one of the most confusing applications they have ever built (at least since Tiger).

The Epson driver for Mac is even more insidious than this...

I´ve created a couple of presets for my 2100, and one of them is "From Photoshop".  There I´ve saved paper and resolution settings, as well as the "No Color Adjustment" setting.  So everything should work perfectly whenever the preset reads "From Photoshop".....

Don´t you believe it!  Suppose I haven´t sent any print jobs from any other application since my last Photoshop job.  Then, once I get the diriver´s Print dialogue, it still shows the text "From Photoshop" in the Presets dropdown, so the obvious inference is that this is what the printer will use, yes?

NO!!!  It will use the factory "default" preset (plain paper, low resolution, color controls) on your big, expensive sheet of paper!  You have to go into that preset dropdown and ACTIVELY select the option that´s already shown there, to get the &%x€ printer to actually USE it....

This drove me NUTS until I finally realised what was going on, and I suppose lots of people fall into this inane trap all the time.

I´ve long since given up the quest for any sign of human intelligence in a Mac OS X Epson driver, but this one does take the bisquit...

The presets sometimes don't work (I always have to double check them, just in case). Most of the time they do stick and apply the correct settings. But sometimes they don't.

Don't you just love settings that are *sometimes* sticky, but not consistently?  

This may be one of the few posts that makes me (a little bit) glad that I'm still a slave to Micro$oft and the PC.

Now, really....    As an entrenched Macster I have to stress that since other printer suppliers seem to get their printer drivers to work under OS X, our problems must be Epson´s responsibility, not Apple´s (I am aware that Epson claims otherwise, but I´m not impressed by their logic).

Once I get correct prints out of my 2100, I´m quite satisfied with them (I use QuadToneRIP for B/W), but one thing is certain: whenever I have to retire the 2100, I´ll start by looking at the new Canon iPF 5000 before anything Epson...

But I´ll stay with Macs, or return to silver photography....

You're probably right that the printer driver problems are the result of Epson's own bias against Macs.

I'm quite happy with my 2200 prints (the 2200 is the 2100 on this side of the pond), also using QTR for B/W. I'll probably get another Epson, unless Canon has proven its domination by that time.
