Has anyone had any experience with these neoprene covers?  I'm going to be vacationing in the Mediterranean this Fall and plan to carry my EOS-5 (yeah I'm still shooting film) with a Canon 28-135 IS lens.  I don't plan to carry a camera bag and thought it might be nice to give the camera a little protection at times.

Yes they work very nicely for that purpose, and also for protecting the camera/lens when tossed into a larger bag like a backpack.  The OPtech neoprene covers are similar; I have one of each and use whichever one I can find.  ;-)

i like the stormjacket (stormjacket.com) for walking around  - it's really compact and easy to stuff in a pocket unlike most of the others (the larger size will accomodate a variety of lenses) - but it's not for serious extended photography in the rain

i have a set of Kata covers which are very bulky and cumbersome - would be okay for long-term tripod setup, but not much else
