How is this spam? It is medium format digital and film equipment I don't need. FS is now allowed on the forum.

Your posting history proves my point. How is this spam? It is medium format digital and film equipment I don't need. FS is now allowed on the forum. Reading the link that pixjohn provided, it is clearly stated by Michael that FS posts are not allowed. You are acting disingenuous. You are aware of the rules and bending them to suit yourself. Stop abusing this forum.

Stop abusing this forum. [a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=80328\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a] Ps: I don't wish to have "for sale" or pricing offers here on any other types of products other than professional medium format digital equipment, so no point in asking. I'm not in the market for MF equipment myself, but the way I read Michael's postscript, "for sale" mention is ok, as long as the equipment offered is "professional medium format equipment." Given the words "other than" in the middle, I don't see that Michael's rules are being violated by this poster. Eric

But, I'm going to make an exception in this case and cautiously allow medium format digital and related products to be mentioned by dealers. [a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=80330\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a] Uh, uh. Michael mentioned dealers. This ain't the posting of no dealer. Careful reading is in order here. Film backs cannot be considered "professional medium format DIGITAL or [digitally] related equipment". Michael is the final arbiter here so I defer to him. But may I be so bold as to pretend to speak for the others, the point is not allowing this forum to be spammed by FS, WTB, WTT, For Auction, ebay links or what have you, especially from somone who opened up an account for the sole purpose of flogging off his unwanted equipment. Let's not open a can of worms.

Hi Paul,
I do agree that we need as many as possible to participate but when said participation consists of two FS posts, I see it more as exploitation than anything else.
While it is easy to make a mistake, pixjohn pointed it out to him and I do not read an apology from him.
By the way, this same person also spammed the Medium Format Digest forum of photo.net with his FS spam. Guess what? FS spam/posts aren't allowed on MFD either.
Michael did not pay me to be the policeman and I am not claiming to be one; I am protesting because two other persons before me felt the same way and registered their protests.

Mr Sherman is a wonderful photographer who I would love to see contribute knowledge here
His recent posts are probably not too appropriate especailly considering his minimal posting history
But a soft approach to dealing with that would be most appropriate to that IMO considering his knowledge and experiece of MFDB in the commercial environment
Please Mr Sherman dont run away - join in - and put a link to your FS kit in your signature

The tone of the posts above saddens me.
Mr. Sherman, please accept my apologies - we'll be very happy to see you here.

This is a prime example of why certain folks leave these type of forums to start their own boards.
I began posting here several moths after RG closed. Thought this place was different, guess not.
Don't have time to read such useless nonsense.

Don't have time to read such useless nonsense. [a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=80365\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a] Then don't. You would rather have this forum littered with myriad FS spam. I don't. If you allow one FS, you'd soon have to allow the others. Perhaps you would rather see things get out of hand. It saddens me to read the pious holier-than-thou tone of some of the members here as if only they have a right to carp whenever they are unhappy while others are not granted the same. What hypocrisy. Spam is spam regardless of how wonderful a photographer the spammer may be. If a photographer goes away because he has been taken to task for spamming, that shows you the maturity level of the person. And please, mkravit, do save the ad hominem references and pejoratives that you may have ready for me. RG did not allow FS spam either and if anyone had tried spamming RG, the response would have been the same. You don't have to read what I write. Just put me on your ignore list.

You can all decide for yourself on how ssherman may have contributed to this forum. If the past is any indication of the future, this is his record of photo.net postings since 1996: http://www.photo.net/shared/community-member?user_id=36981

izaack...just let it go...i am sure michael will simply take these posts off, problem solved...some people always ruin it for others by trying to push the limits fo their own advantage.... maybe ssherman is a great photographer with a ton of knowledge..either way we don't know, because he/she obviously won't share.... don't know anything about him/her...but this is just sad....i am also not sure why anyone here would want to defend this behaviour? do you guys really want this forum be made completely useless by posts about someone's crap for sale? the rule was obviously set up because people wanted to know real world DMF prices...how do used film backs fit into that?

What is going here? The op probably was out of line, but a friendly redirection might well have done the trick, and if not report it to MR and let him deal with it. I don't want this forum spammed to death either, but if someone casually mentions they have some gear, I don't get too riled about it.
This forum has almost reached a point of critical mass. We have dealers, users, people considering the move...all things that are making it a very informative place that many of us longed for since the RG debacle. We should all be supportive of one another in our pursuit of knowledge, and if someone repeatedly violates the rules, they should be reported to the moderator and be dealt with accordingly.
Tolerance and diversity are a cornerstone of a public forum. The ultimate decision is MR's and should be left up to him.

If the FS came from a member who contributes, I would be more understanding. ssherman had no history of adding anything to the forum but 2 FS ads.

[a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=80379\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a] what does this have to do with a guy coming here posting a FS that is obviously against forum rules? it almost seems like the guy has been waiting for michael to make a statement about allowing FS in certain circumstances and certain products, only to post (his first posts!) very obviously ignoring the rules....BS is BS and should be critizised.... and what do some H1 film backs have to do with diversity? someone mentioned before that this is why people leave forums...i agree...a discussion on if/if not someone has the right to post this BS is just a waste of time...and of course i am stupid enough to actually care enough about this community to play along...

and what do some H1 film backs have to do with diversity?
[a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=80386\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a] Diversity, as in you and the op differ on a point of view. Tolerance, as in we should respect each other's point of view and if there is an irreconcilable issue, leave it to the moderator to resolve.
