About this update

Mac OS X Tiger provides support for a variety of popular digital camera and image file formats. Applications such as Aperture, iPhoto and Preview utilize this support to work with digital camera RAW files. This update improves RAW file format compatibility for the following digital SLR cameras:

-Canon Digital Rebel XTi / 400D / Kiss X Digital
-Nikon D80
-Pentax *ist DS

Other issues addressed:

-Handling of large Canon RAW files (.CRW)
-DNG compatibility on Intel-based Macs
-Lines sometimes appearing in images exported from Aperture

Still no support for the Pentax k100d which is what makes me stick with Lightroom. Come on Apple, how hard is it?

I agree completely! I am hoping that Apple will just fully support DNG as well so that the K10D will be instantly fully supported although I would be very surprised to see this happen by the end of November when the K10D should be out. In the meantime, I have been using JPEGs in Aperture and just saving the PEFs for later import. Of course to create the JPEGs, I ended up buying RAW Developer which seems to work reasonably well. It is very frustrating waiting for K100D and DNG support!

This is an update on Pentax K10D RAW support. My K10D arrived today and it writes either PEF or DNG RAW files. After digging around a whole bunch, I determined that the K10D seems to use the "mosaic" type of DNG file that Aperture does support but this type requires support for that camera already in Mac OS X. It appears that Apple has chosen not to use the "universal" support for DNG that can be used. ACR supports DNG files from the K10D just fine but is not optimized for the camera yet.

So, in the end. "Full" support for DNG doesn't exist without supporting cameras individually at least when it comes to Aperture. Therefore, we have to wait for Apple to issue an update that adds K100D and K10D PEF support (which also provides DNG support for the K10D). I wish Apple would hurry up already!!
