I paid considerably more for mine, but I stumbled on to this December promotion at ColorHQ.com: http://www.colorhq.com/index.asp?PageActio...PROD&ProdID=481

$1,395 including roll feed and maintenance cartridge and free shipping. There may be other deals out there, but this is better than several that I've seen.

Just an FYI for those who'd like to pay less for a nice printer that I paid.

I see no trade-in is required.  Bought my IPF5000 from them, they were a pleasure to deal with.  Went out of their way to make sure mine could be delivered in 2 days (when I could be at home to accept delivery) before I ordered.

Hi John,

I bought mine from Pictureline and there was no trade-in required for the instant rebate (I got the impression that it was Canon sponsored on some level). It's been a few weeks now. The price was $1.445 plus shipping, but I paid another $225 for the roll feed from them. They were kind enough to include a 15' USB cable at my request and they were very nice to work with. It was a decent deal for the time period for those not buying from at the show in NYC.

Still, this deal is better, but such is the way of technology equipment.

Best,

Dale

Just installed mine (from ColorHQ). Brian at ColorHQ is a pleasure to work with. One other aspect of their deal is that the shipping is free-significant on a printer of this size and weight! They do need a serial number from a 17 inch or wider printer (but they don't take the printer - the purpose of the "trade-in" is to get Epson users to try a Canon, often as an addition to existing printers).

Dan,

I know about the serial number requirement that has been in place for a while in order to get the price break, but it looked like this promo may not require the "upgrade". That was the purpose of my original post, but perhaps you're right and a serial number is still required. It appeared to me that starting December 1 that the pricing was getting more aggressive. As I mentioned, Pictureline did not require a competing serial number a few weeks ago.

Anyway, I was just hoping that others may benefit from the promotion if the net price really is cheaper.

Another vote for the Color HP deal and people. I got mine from them last month - this is really a Canon program but this is the only place I've seen that offers the extra maintenance tank (shipped direct from Canon), and I'm glad to see they are extending it. I suspect a lot of folks would have bought the 3800 if not for this deal, which is the extact reason Canon has done it of course. Great folks to deal with, and in a surprise phone call from them a week after the printer arrived the manager just wanted to make sure that I received the printer and got it set up and working ok. He didn't even try to sell me anything else. I enjoy dealing with customer-oriented folks, and the fact they have the best deal is just icing on the cake.

Dale, I guess I know what I will ask Santa for. grin

Much as I would like an HP Z2100, I already have the ColorVision monitor/printer profiling combo so I might have to settle for 17" instead of 24", and something that is desktop not deskside.

Nigel,

I hope your desk has a big top.   My 5000 sits in a 30"x48" alcove on a two inch solid counter therein. It fills the space neatly and hangs over the front a bit. I too was interested in 24", but decided that waiting is not my strong suit.

May Santa be kind and bring you all the goodies. Maybe a GMB iO will fall out of his sleigh as he banks a sharp turn over my house.

Cheers,

Dale
