Bag

I am looking for a bag that will carry a 20D, 17-40L, 24-70L, XPAN, filters and a tripod, plus assorted other bits and pieces, for day hikes when I am out shooting landscapes. I was thinking a two section bag with the camera gear in the lower section and the rest for clothing/food etc. All the bags I have looked at from Lowepro, Crumpler and Tamrac don't seem to quite fit the bill (mainly for carrying the tripod). Does any one have any recommendations?

The LowePro Photo Trekker II has an attachment for a tripod on the outside of the pack that works quite nicely.

Tamrac's recent Adventure 9 really meets our needs for similar loads.  There are two attachment points on the bottom for adding nylon straps to hold a tripod, which is exactly where I prefer to carry mine for load distribution rather than on the side or back.  We've used a wide array of packs because our usage pretty much mirrors yours.  They've all turned into closet fodder since my wife and I each got our 9s.  In very active field use, as well as location shooting on pro asignments we add one or two of Tamrac's lens or accessory pouches to the waist belt for quick access without removing the pack.  Dandy combo!

I have the Kata R-103 GDC Backpack that holds my Nikon D2X, 2 lenses, light meter, spare batteries, flash, filters and other stuff. It also has a laptop carpartment. Plus it comes with the TST tripod attachment that is very well ergo designed.

Kata is a neat brand as all their bags are modular in design. I also have the W-92 waist pack for easy access to 'stuff' I need more than others without putting my back pack down.
