One from a trip to Southwold on the east coast of the UK a couple of weeks ago. The colours needed real work to get them close to how they were in reality, the WB was so off. Others have suggested cropping out the forground, but I disagree, what do you think?  |

That's wild! Keep the foreground. I like it. It nudges the boundary between landscape and abstract.

I agree, that's wild, thunderous, and ka-wham!
I don't see any particular reason to fiddle much with the colours; this isn't an image that invites anything but drama, and I think the colours need to underline that effect.

Tom: leave the beach in: it makes the image. The strong horizontal banding, and the echo if the waves in the clouds, work well, and contrast with the surf and sand nicely.
A perfect evocation of an English winter day...

Please, please, please don't crop off the sand and rocks. the water and sky are interesting, but they leave the viewer no frame of reference. The foreground is the foundation of this wonderful image.
The story as far as I see it......
"mmmm.....nice, rocky, sandy beach is safe and comfortable, but that ocean place is a foreboding and dangerous place. You would be crazy to leave the comfort of little pebbles and head out onto the chaotic, churning ocean."

Thanks guys, good to hear some others agreeing about the forground, I thought it was just me.
Regarding the colours, they're ok now, but believe me I had to fiddle with them, the whole image was so cold out of the cam.

There are 4 levels on the photograph at present, the sand, the wash, the sea and the sky. I would kill the sand at the bottom 1/4 as 4 elements are a bit too much for a photo like this and the colour doesn't compliment the rest of the photo, it's too different.

Ben,
I think you have chopped off too much for my taste. I could accept cropping a little off the bottom, but the vivid contrast between the sand and the water is essential to the image, IMHO.

The crop doesn't work for me really, although I see what your getting at. Guess it's just gonna be one of those controversial images. Thanks for looking anyway.
