The drivers and tools act very different on Windows and Mac.

When I first intialized the printer I inadvertently set the clock 12 hours ahead, (the whole 12/24 hour clock thing). After half a day spent trying to find the date/time settings I called tech support and they said you cannot reset the clock.

Mine never asked me to set it and it is also out. I will ask HP how to reset it.

The new firmware does not have any impact onm colour but adds support for two new medias: Fine Art Media Pearl and Glossy paper High Ink Capacity.
[a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108803\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]

Robert, after installing the firmware a second time, Fine Art Media Pearl shows up on the list of custom papers on the printer and in Easy Care, but NOT in the printer driver.  To get it to appear in the printer driver I turned the cutter off and on, and it then appeared.

Does that correspond to your experience?  Is it in the custom setting?

Glossy paper High Ink Capacity never appeared.  In what setting does it appear for you?

Thanks

To get new papers to appear in the driver you need to update the paper from the manage papers ootion in the color centre section of the easy care utility.

What setting are you referring to?  There is no reference in the manual to setting the date and time.  Date and time don't show up on the front panel of the printer.  Nor is there any information on how to access that info, if it even exists.

But I had problems installing the driver, so maybe you're looking at something that I can't even access.

Hi Marty-

If you press the down arrow and the cancel (X) key at the same time you enter a service menu, with a utility to change the clock and calendar. On the most recent firmware version, however, the settings don't stick.

Now that's what I'm talkin' bout! You can say what you want about HP releasing a "beta" printer, the translated grammar of their newsletter, or even their spying on board members. I don't care. I have long wished for documentation of just this sort with regard to printer drive media settings. Thanks for the link Uwe.

We were encouraging along these lines from the beginning. With some printers the right paper/setting combination can be lottery.

This is fantastic.  I applaud HP's engineering team for releasing this information, almost on cue from our comments here in the forum of last week.  This is exemplary support from the echelons where it matters the most, and it's obvious that HP's wide format team is dedicated to making this printer a success.  I'm further encouraged that my purchase was the right one.

(Now if we could only get this kind of motivation down to the first line support group...)

Wonderful.  I rarely print PDFs, but this one is hitting the trees right now.

Thank you!

Must have got the wrong info somewhere. I thought Quad Black printing was for (all?) matte media.
(was hoping for Quad Black printing on matte canvas)

Looks like it's only available with the "Fine Art paper >250 g/m2" paper type preset.

Good catch. That's got to be a mistake, as it goes against all information put out by techs and documentation since the printer's release. The determinant of when to use all 4 has been, to my undestanding whether or not a glossy surface is used, which the MK will simply flake off of. Like when you do a print diagnostic on glossy media.

Now that I have installed the latest firmware and deleted some forms (about 25 or so) from the Printers and Faxes Server Properties to make room for custom paper sizes, I still get a fault screen after updating the papers in HP Easy Care and then trying to access the Properties button in the printer driver. I am on Win XP SP2.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer driver twice with the same result. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the HP Easy Care with no relief.

Everything works fine as long as I do not try to synchronize the papers on the computer and on the printer.

Any ideas, or is this a problem with the current firmware and driver?

Thanks,
Jim

Join the crowd.  In my case the 'pearl media' paper showed up in custom papers, rather than where it should be.  And the other setting related to glossy and high ink never appeared at all.

Installing the software was a nightmare, at least for me.

And as others have noted, HP tech support for the software absolutely sucks.  There is no other way to put it.

The latest tech paper from HP is a great step in the right direction, but they need software and firmware that works -- and they need to provide Tech SUPPORT when we have problems, not Tech ARROGANCE and non-responsive staff.

The "Pearl media" also showed up in my custom papers instead of the regular HP paper list and, as with you, the heavy Ink Load Glossy paper is nowhere to be seen.

Are you having the issues with the fault screens and the inability to access the Printer Properties after synchronizing the papers?

When HP sent me the beta version of Fine Art Pearl Paper Preset they did tell me it would appear under the Custom Paper directory.   They appear to have left it there for the new firmware update.
