Announcing Booksmart Studio’s Artist-in-Residence program for photographers.

The Fall 2007 Book Arts Residency is geared towards photographers that are looking to publish a limited edition book of their artwork. The winning photographer will live in Rochester, NY for one full month in the Fall of 2007. The photographer will work on their personal design and layout of their book at Booksmart Studio. The photographer’s book will be printed in our studio utilizing any of our digital printing techniques available.

Upon completion of the residency 75 copies of the photographers book will be published, the photographer will leave with 10 copies. To promote the publishing of the limited edition book Booksmart Studio will donate 15 copies to influential galleries & museums. The remaining 50 books will be sold and 25% of the sale will be paid to the photographer. Finally, once the books have been published, the photographer will be provided an exhibition in our 1,500 square foot gallery along with a book signing.

The photographer will live in downtown Rochester, New York in a single bedroom apartment. A stipend of $500 will be awarded to the winning photographer for gas & food.

Juror: Therese Mulligan
Therese Mulligan is professor and coordinator of the MFA program at Rochester Institute of Technology, as well as director of the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences Gallery. She worked previously for eight years as the Curator of Photography at George Eastman House, and has worked extensively as an author, editor, and speaker in the fields of traditional and contemporary photographic history and aesthetics.
