I don't know if I have more experience than you, but, for me, the picture is the rocks. Their shapes, textures and color are the points of interest. I would crop away about 2/3 or 3/4 of the distant forest at the top of the picture just leaving enough to create a sense of space between the forest and the closeby rocks.

I see what you mean, however this also changes the meaning of the whole image for me, partially removing a sense of "falling down" I wanted to show...
