I have never seen one in use.  They don't mention photography on their "typical use" page.

If it were me and I wanted to get a good display I'd get an Apple Cinema Display or a La Cie LCD.

Sun monitors are typically based on standard tubes - which monitor are you looking at, specifically?

They're not specifically designed for photo work (you can't calibrate Solaris's X server), but actually they're quite good - I had a 24" CRT for a few years which I used quite a lot attached to my Mac.

Just a general response to this subject since I am still using, and will continue to use for some time, Trinitron CRT monitors.

Unless you spend upwards of $1500 for an RGB color space LCD monitor you will ultimately be dissappointed after using a Trinitron CRT. I have looked and looked - no consumer LCD level display up to $5-600 equals a Trinitron. If you think so, quit reading here.

For those who feel the same, nearly any Trinitron monitor with a decent 256-bit, 256 megabyte graphics card can be used for graphics and photography work. Only NEC monitors of this genre seem to have fallen short. Apple, IBM, Dell, Sony and other makes are available in the refurb world at attractive prices.

Apple and Sony are preferred but I'm getting a 21" IBM Trinitron CRT that has a .24 pitch, DVI connection and retailed for $750 when new. I'm spending $195 at Accurate IT for a 6 mo. warranty afterwhich I'll be crossing my fingers it will last a few years.

Apple CRT's are available on eBay for a pittance (under $100 shipped) but be careful  - their connectors aren't all the same and some require a Mac to hook up to. Do you homework and you'll find some dandy deals.
