Modern/Popular Photography Editor In Chief, Herbert Keppler passed away last Friday. He was an avid photographer and contributor to the industry for the last 50 years. Here is the link to Jason Schneider's tribute:

I'm really going to miss his articles. Rest in peace.

Did you met him Michael?

Keppler was one of the great "characters" of the industry. During the late 50's and then 60's while he was a Modern I read the magazine devotedly and they were formative in my early development as a photographer, as I'm sure it was for almost everyone who's now middle aged or slightly older.

I met him once or twice at trade shows but never had the pleasure of working with him, as by the time I started writing for magazines he'd moved on to Pop, which I never wrote for.

The industry has lost one of its best.

Yup (although I'm MUCH younger than you <g>). And as a kid, reading his articles, he seemed (at the time) an old guy. He'll be missed.

What a coincidence, I've always amazed me how long he lived, although he looked to me back in the 70s like my grandfather. He had a good life, I'm sure about that, and he is now in a better place. Go take pictures of the angels, Burt.
