Canon 40D Display Broke

Hi everyone
I have the Canon 40D. I just came back from a trip and I turned on my camera. The display just showed some yellow and black "stuff". Actually it looks as if a window broke. The display does not work, no zooming etc. From the outside everything looks fine, hence no brakage of and parts of the camera.
The camera is still working fine. When I download the pics into the computer, they are sharp and good.
So it seems that only the display is broke, but the chip etc are uneffected.
SoI will bring my camera to the Canon Office.
My Canon is just 4 month old and I took about 1000+ shots.
My question is, if anyone had a similar problem. Does anyone have an idea what may have been the cause?
Thanks
Yogi
PS Actually a funny feeling that you cannot check the pics on the display, but 10 years ago no one could! Amazing how quickly you get used to the display!
