Wireless Firewire

Wireless USB exists, so why not wireless Firewire? Does anyone know if this exists yet or is on the way? It would be great to work cable-free and tethered at the same time. Of course the full transfer rate would have to be supported to maintain a decent frame rate.

I don't think I would turn on a wireless device that could support firewire speeds without wearing lead boxers.   Copy a file across the wireless link and get branded by your prince albert.

It is pretty old and I didn't see anything for wireless firewire products.  I checked a place I used to work that offered usb like wireless things and didn't see anything.

If i remember correctly, it was on the way in late 2004 but was later (sometime in 2006) put to rest as a standard.    So no, doesn't exist, and no isn't on its way.

That's a funny thought, but I would be more concerned about that mobile phone in your pocket all day. WiFi routers typically transmit at 30mW, Bluetooth even less at 10mW (depends on your radio tho), but GSM can go up as high as 2W! At 2W, that's a whole 66.7X more power pouring into your boxers at any given moment, and you don't usually keep your Wireless router/USB in your pocket.

There is wireless 1394 over coax. I don't know if that counts.
