Frosty Morning

Boy, I'm glad that's your weather and not mine.  After being snowed in for a few weeks I'm glad to be out in a T-shirt.  (Not that we probably won't have some more snow.)

Anyway, I wonder how the image would have turned out had you shot it more from the right and at an angle to the 'wall of trees' in the background?  The current version lacks the depth that I think you could have captured.

Thanks for the remarks   .  It was a "tad chilly" (-18C, or about 0F) when I shot that (I can send you some snow if you would like, Lisa  ).  The warmer days (0C) loads the air with a lot of humidity which then condenses at night when it gets cold.  It's gotta be near "maple-syrup-making-time", me thinks  :: .

Bob, I did shoot other images with the angle you suggested, but that resulted in a washed out, white sky.  There was a lot of reflection going on in the atmosphere and as soon as you got away from the straight front-lighting condition, the sky blew out.  What I liked about this position was the grey-blue sky that brought out the whites of the branches, and the low sun bringing out the slowly-greening trees as they start to absorb moisture again.  Spring is coming, as is evident here, but the nights are still decidedly winter   .

Yeah, it's certainly been a winter for frost!  I'm only about 1.5 hours south of you, and we've had as much hoar as snow this winter.  It sure can make for some nice photography though, eh?   .

I guess as soon as we start getting the days above freezing, the sap will start running.  I'm looking forward to that as the local Mennonites always seem to make a good batch of the "liquid gold".  I totally agree with you though - it's time to bring on the Spring  :: .

Nothing like frost on trees to make things look unreal...

We had a foggy morning this week and the trees ended up temporarily frosted.

I liked this shot the most.



Was fonder at first of this one but feel it looks a bit odd -- I would have benefited here from a very tall stepladder to reduce the "looking up" effect.

We had some great scenery north of the Kitchener-Waterloo region here this morning.  Lots of frost with a nice sky background.  If only I didn't have to work to pay off my cameras I would have had several cards worth of images

It's nice to see snow, even if vicariously through others' lenses.  We're having a heat wave here (it's been in the 80s F).  The "icy blue" look to your image is delightfully refreshing; you've captured it well.

Nice hoar frost! I bet the scene was a beauty all around. Work does get in the way!

The warmth apparent in the trees is another sign of the passing of the seasons here, isn't it? I expect the syrup season is about to start this week, actually.

I could use a little less frost at this point, personally.

A great shot --- I like it as it is. Makes we wish we got a bit more snow here in my part of England than we do. (We've only had several days of what I'd call "snow and go").

Hi Guys,
My apologies for not replying sooner.  I've been away in the field for a bit, then came back to pick up my D2X the other day (happy camper here!).

Thank you for the very kind remarks Andy and Paul - much appreciated.  It's always (well, nearly always   ) extremely enjoyable getting out on these early morning jaunts for the purposes of photographing what nature has to offer, but reading the very nice remarks about the results really adds to the motivation for such activities.  Certainly the standards set here are very high, and it's very much appreciated when folks comment on one's efforts.  Thank you!

Paul - your images are not only very scenic, but a biologist's dream   .  May I ask where these were taken?  It looks like on the inside bend of a fairly major river somewhere.  Very nice stuff there!
