How long do I have to wait

[font color=\'#000000\']We opted for the S2 over the D100 and with no regrets, but I can't give you a measure of the time lag for downloading the buffer.  It seems to hold more images and download faster than the D30 we use with our Canon system, but that is only relative.  It also seems to download faster when you use a chip, rather than a microdrive.  Remember too, that the size of the image files will also affect the number of images you can send to the buffer before it stops to download.  Most notable for us, the next-to-largest image file size (32mb) gives us incredibly good 8x10's with little and often no sharpening.  Here are the sources that helped us choose the S2 over the D100, and which might have the times you seek.

[font color=\'#000000\']I have used the D100 and did find it a bit slow to write to the microdrive once the buffer (4 shots raw mode) is full.  I don't have a number as far as how many seconds, but it's long enough to be a bit of an annoyance.

The D100 is a great camera though and I would not reject it solely for this.[/font]

[font color=\'#000000\']I am contemplating a digital body for some of my commercial work. I have Nikon lenses, and am debating between fith the the D100 and the latest from Fugi with 6.2 megapixel files. I am told with the FinePix that you can expose 7 frames before you wait for the images to be captured (something about filling the buffer) and,  I am assuming, till you can fire again. I have not been able to find any info on how long a time that would take. Some of the uses would be a quasi documentary situations where I would like very much to feel as unencumbered, aftet the learning curve of course, as with film. I want the option of larger files, so the Nikon DIH doesn't seem the answer. Does anyone out there have any idea of the time involved. I translate so much of my film to digital files now, and the appeal of treading more lightly on the planet (less Polaroid, less tossed film) appeals to me as well.[/font]

First check Phil's review (upper left - click on 'Cameras' and follow the menus).  He probably has already answered your 'buffer clearing' question.

If not, go next to the 'Fuji SLR Talk' forum, do a quick search.

Still nothing?  Just post the question on the forum and someone will fire off a burst for you.  They may have to give you "One Mississippi, Two Mississippi,..." quality data, but it's better than nothing.

Remember, the buffer question only applies when you rip off a stream of shots in drive mode.  Phil will certainly give you shot-to-shot times when you're firing each shot manually.[/font]
