But I suspect it only needs one unblacked screw head, or a bare metal ring, inside the mirror chamber.

There was one other problem that was fixed by a recall. The problem referred to above still exists and has to do with reference pixels being hit by bright light at the edge of the frame.  There are numerous posts about this on the Leica forum.

In comparison, the 5DII problem is not very noticeable.  However, as I don't need a 5DII right away, I'll wait and see how the camera shakes out before buying one.

I received a raw file with ISO 200, exhibiting this "feature". For me it looks like a software issue (it is known as "firmware" for some people).

I was just wondering.How come,inspite of the Canon 5D MII's Black Dots problem,it still sells like hot cakes everywhere?I mean,even if a lot of people know about the Black Dots problem of the Canon 5D MKII,they still put a reservation for it and are willing to wait.What do you think is the probable reason for this?

Some things need to be spelled out clearly for the worse fanboys.

1. A serious error does not go away by simply stating, that you don't see it. Buy a new pair of glasses or a better monitor. Even better: buy a P&S and you land where you belong.

2. A pixel level issue can not be discussed away with the rubbish that it is not visible on print. It may not be visible on your print, but it may appear on others. If you never heard of the term cropping, then it's time to start learning digital photography now. Crops show the truth on print as well as on monitor.

3. An issue can not be discussed away by saying, that it appears only in high ISO shots (I found it down to 1600, but then it is not so serious as at 6400 and 12800).

An extremely succinct way of putting what has been driving me off certain (usually amatuer based) websites recently such as the FM canon forum. As pathetic as the people who wrote about the 1D mkIII problem: "well, what's wrong with manual focus!". Makes my blood boil as much as when people use the term 'pixel peeping' ignoring the fact that anything which shows up at 100% will show in a print at native resolution even before you start to uprez. No one buys a 21 megapixel camera to print at 50%...
