Next month I will be at the Grand Canyon for three weeks as the Artist-in-Residence. I have volunteered to spend a portion of my time working with kids from the local school leading them on a nature walk that will have a photography theme to it. Iím hoping to work with 10 to 20 kids at a time and I expect them to be paired-up and share cameras.

What Iím looking for right now are used point-n-shoot digital cameras to loan to the kids. If you have any cameras laying around the house that are not being used, I would put them to good use with the kids. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide. Ideally Iím looking for cameras that run on AA batteries and use SD memory cards, but Iím happy to accept just about anything. If you can donate a camera, please let me know here on the forum, on my blog, or via email.

Update: Canon USA got the ball rolling by donating two PowerShot SX100 IS cameras! Thank you Canon. Taos artist Desiree Hodges has donated a camera and memory card. Peter and Judy Butcher of Taos have also donated a camera as well as a Canon PIXMA Pro 9000 printer with extra inks and paper. Thank you to Desiree, Judy and Peter for your generous donations.

Sorry I didn't see this until just now. I hope that you got the needed equipment. I've just recently returned from overseas, but I have some extra P&S cameras that were part of number that we provided to a school for similar projects. Wish I'd seen this earlier.

Dale,

I appreciate the thought. I have completed my program with the school here at the Grand Canyon. Is was very successful thanks to the donations that I received.

Don't forget that most of the children's mobile phones have inbuilt cameras so at a pinch they could be used as well, and can really provide a whole new area of exploration.
