Winter's last sprinkle

Took a few shots in High Park, Toronto, on our last day of a snowfall. Just a sprinkle on a cold overcast day. When I first entered photography in a serious way, it was as a slide shooter. And there what you see is what you get. Your only tools were filters, over and underexposure and type of film choice, more or less. So when digital took off, I was shocked to see so many images with unrealistic colours and processing. But gradually I came to accept that people were trying to express themselves in many ways and tried to look at the images from the point of view of whether they succeeded or not, and not whether the image was realistic. So with that I give you the last sprinkling of winter, which has a decidedly painterly look.

It's a very fine shot but you need to back off a bit on the Clarity slider in Photoshop. Look at the haloes around the ends of the bench.

Yes, you are quite right. But sometimes I want it that way, though in this case, I agree, it is very noticable. I tempted fate beyond reason by trying to bring out the pink in the bark of the tree. Thanks for the comments.

Try backing off Clarity and cranking up Vibrance. That might do it.
