This is old news, but my first chance to try this utility.
I've had the User Defined Paper Size Utility from http://dahmerphotography.blogspot.com/ sitting on my desktop for a while, but never had the opportunity to use it. It's designed to overcome the 37” max print length on the 3800 (and indeed on other Epson printers)
It won't work with the current driver, so yesterday I downloaded the driver version 5.5 from http://driverscollection.com/?file_cid=244...Fzx6yywwVz0P6oO, ran a virus check and installed it on my laptop connecting to the printer via the ethernet thingy. The installer listed it as version 6.1, but it shows 5.5 on the driver dialogue. Didn't want to try it on my desktop as this computer is working just fine at present and I've found this is the sort of thing that that can end in a hair tearing session.
Yesterday I cut 51” off a roll of Gold Fibre Silk and ran it through a  de-roller and left it to settle on the kitchen table overnight. Today I ran the udps utility, updated Qimage, loaded in the desktop screen profile, Eric Chan's GFS profile for the AWB driver, did the settings in the driver and hit print. The 3 year old laptop has XP home and the cpu ran between 20 and 50%, but had absolutely no problems. I'm somewhat pleased with the results. This little utility is really quite satisfactory. I think I may even have a second coffee today.
Cheers, David

Very belated thanks for posting this David.

I've only just needed to make a print longer than the default 37" on my 3800 and found this old topic.
The links are still all working and it seems the author is still developing udps.
It all works as described and I've been very happy to watch a 17" x 50" canvas print slide out from my 3800.

FWIW I also just installed the old driver (5.5) onto my little £200 netbook and it handled the 320mb file without a glitch.

Highly recommended :-)

I can't seem to get the Dahmer (http://dahmerphotography.blogspot.com/) utility to download.  Is it still available?  Thanks.

Hi Rhossydd. I'm glad you found it helpful.
Jim- I no longer have a 3800 but kept the utility through lack of housekeeping. If you send me a PM I will email you the zipped version.

I was able download the file (right click and save link as) but the file was corrupt. I thank Dave for emailing it to me.
Tonight I'm giving it a go.

The MIRAGE PlugIn for Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign is also a very easy to use and high quality way to print any length wanted on Epson printers: http://mirage.dinax.de/index.php/start-43.html

The MIRAGE PlugIn
Yes, but three hundred euros is a lot more than a freeware fix if all you want is a longer print length.

I also cannot download the file from dahmer's blog. The link goes to:

http://www.alice-dsl.net/hgd/udps.zip

And then it says it cant find the file (in German).

I would appreciate it if someone could email the file or post a working link to it. Tnx.

I have left a message on the Dahamer Photography blog to the effect that the links (download and documentation) result in the not found message. We'll see what happens.

If you use a service like YouSendIt.com, and send it to yourself, you can then share the download URL.
Up to a file size of 50MB it's free.

Bart

Thanks,

Hi Keith,

Sorry, I do not have an Epson printer, therefore I had no use personally for the utility. Maybe one of the downloaders can repost it?

Cheers,
Bart
