I think that this shot proves that even with reportage, there are times when black/white just wouldn't make it. Unless you wanted to tease yourself in Photoshop for a couple of hours, that is.

I wouldn't say it won't work.
I made a little b/w conversion of the image for myself and I liked it.
But I agree, that the use of color in this image strongly adds value and does not distract.
