Fascinating article, (not). Hardly a mention of (or understanding of the importance of) shallow depth of field, the raison d'etre of large sensor cameras. Oh well.

I agree, the article is missing (for the most part) the point. We've been shooting with cumbersome 35mm adapters on very good cameras such as the sony ex3 to get optimum image quality combined with shallow depth of filed. Those rigs were monsters to lug around and even harder to shoot with then the - not intended for video  - DSLR user interfaces. The moment the Canon 5DMK2 came out we listed the whole thing for sale.

Why? Better image quality in a smaller package and beautiful shallow DOF when needed.

Are they ideal for shooting video from a usability standpoint? No. Do they come with lots of problems? Yes. But in the end I get the best results - at least for the kind of work we do - with DSLRs

Non the less I sure hope we'll soon se fully featured camcorders with the image quality and DOF AND sensitivity of DSLRs - then live will be perfect ... till the next camera comes along ;-)
