LED Monitors

Just been looking at LED Monitors. The contrast ratio appear to be very good, but, quoted figures can be mis-leading.

Just wondered if anyone has experience of LED monitors and how they compare with LCD etc

I dont think there are any LED monitors out there? There are 1) LCD-monitors with CCFL backlighting, called "LCD-monitors", and then there are 2) LCD monitors with LED backlighting, occasionally misleadingly called "LED-monitors".

I dont think that 2) necessarily are any better than 1).

You are correct, the LED does provide the back lighting, suppose then the only benefits are less power and thinner, unless LED can offer better contrast?

The backlighting is responsible for brightness, power consumption, illumination uniformity and color temperature.

Contrast is only influenced by the panel.

I also think that LED mainly give reduced power consumption/heat. RGB-LED may give some benefit in that global color temperature adjustement can be carried out without spending panel contrast.

Interesting about RGB-LED possibly giving benefit to adjustment of colour temperature without spending panel contrast. I am reluctant to buy one at this time as they do not seem to have been exhaustively tested, I do like the idea in principle though, will keep an eye on how they develop.
