10D & 1Ds battery charging in Ireland

ah, begorrah sir an we'll be getting that elektrickery next year, shure enough...

Ireland is 220/240 Volts AC, 50/60Hz.  Any US / Europe voltage convertor will be fine.  Many devices auto-switch these days, and if they don't, they'll explode, so you'll know which ones they are (Irish logic )

Thank you Jonathan. I presently own a 10D, and had planned on purchasing a 1Ds after the first of the year (another purchase in 2003, and my tax accountant would have a heart attack!!!). It did not occur to me to actually look at the charger, as I knew it worked on 110V, so I assumed it would not actually work also on 220V.

Hi all:
My wife and I will be travelling to Ireland for a vavcation in early spring. I will need to recharge my camera's batteries in local hotels, B&Bs, etc. I already purchased an AC electrical plug converter, but my question is, is the voltage 220V as opposed to 110V here in the states? I don't presently have a 220V/110V converter.
Thanks, we are really looking forward to our trip. My wife's heritage is Irish, and this will be her first trip.

The battery chargers that are shipped with the 10D contain a built in converter for both 110 and 220, so all you need is the correct plug. I do not know about the 1DS, but I would hope that Canon would use the same logic for their customers of that model.

The label on the bottom of my 1Ds charger NC-E2 indicates it will work with 100-240V, 50-60Hz. So all you should need is a cord that fits the local outlets.

You should be able to buy a figure of eight power lead locally in Ireland for about 3.00USD. You may not even need a plug adapter.

In the UK you can get these power leads in Woolworths. I cannot remember if Woolies operates in the Republic, but it should be present in the North.
