Imacon Flextight question

I have a Precision II which was an ex-demo. It was fine with all film formats to begin with, but the focus went right off on rollfilm and I had not been supplied with the focussing target. However, all was well when I had been sent one and had recalibrated. I find with my scanner that light tonal areas on transparencies give me more problems than shadow areas. I am impressed with the duat removal utility in the latest versions of Flexcolor (I forget what it is called).

Dear Imacon users,

One quick question. I have been using a second hand Precision III for some month with more or less satisfying results.

Until now, I was a little bit disapointed by the sharpness and DR, but had a double revelation yesterday.

- I finally decided to calibrate the focus -> what a difference! It feels like moving from a 6 MP digital camera to a 22 MP back :-)

- Until now, I never spent much more than 30 minutes or so scanning, but could spend 5 hours in a row yesterday. The more time passed by, the more DR the scanner was seemingly delivering. Deeper blacks etc...

This should of course be re-confirmed with more testing.

I was wondering if someone had had similar experiences with that generation of Imacon scanners?

Yes, it’s there for a reason. The unit can get bumped out of focus however, I haven ‘t seen the need to do this process a 2nd time once the scanner is setup and stable.
