I have made changes to my raw images on my laptop and want to save these changes when burning to DVD for backup or transfer them to an external, portable drive, and then transfer them to my desktop at home for further work in cs5. How do apply the CR changes and have them remembered?

Do you have ACR's preferences set to save changes in the Camera Raw database or Sidecar .xmp files? If you have it set to save the .xmp sidecar files, and you copy both the raw file AND the .xmp file to the DVD then you'll have your adjustments with the raw file. I never have my ACR prefs set to save changes in the Camera Raw database for this very reason...if you convert the raw files to DNG then you don't even need to worry about the .xmp files (although you DO still need to change the preferences).
