$1000 budget for monitor

Hey guys,

I am about to let go of my iMac and purchase a Mac pro. I need a monitor that will be used for cs5, light room and print proofing. I own a spider 3 monitor calibrator so calibration is taken care of.

With this budget what would you guys suggest? I am looking for something 27 inches or larger

Well.. with all due respect to your budget, and IF color management is important to you.. you're so close to being able to purchase one of the NEC's.. I'd give that some thought.  Maybe you could still find some old stock LCD2690uxi2's (25.5") around that would be very close to that figure.  Fine monitors.  I'd take them over a new monitor in the $1000 price range.

I have heard mixed things about trying to calibrate this monitor with something other than the one you can buy bundled. Will my Spyder 3 calibrate this bad boy without issue? If so I may go for the NEC PA271W

NEC monitors really benefit from using their own SVII software and custom pucks.  I've heard the Munki works well, and the software will accept other pucks, but I think you'd eventually want either the Munki or SVII puck.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why would I want another Monitor Calibration unit? I already have the Spyder3 (Spyder Studio)

You can use the Spyder with the SpectraView as long as you use NEC’s software to do this, not the software from DataColor. Now its not the ideal instrument in that the one sold for the NEC has custom mated filters that match the panel but the NEC software does support the use of the Spyder. It should work.
