Printing in a panorama mode

I wonder if one can create a new layout for printing in such a way that there is a 2:1 ratio between wide and height in the final picture. Well, in fact I saw that it was possible, but I would like to know  what happens when LR prints it as jpg (I do not have a good printer, so I send my images to a custom lab as jpg, 250 dpi, sharpness standard for Matte). Will I see some degradation in the quality of my images when I enlarge in such a way?.  The only problem I foresee is that LR does not save how you have eventually framed the picture, so that it will not possible to repeat the image as it were a typical 3:2 ratio. But if the algorithms used by LR allow that, I think this is a nice way to hang some nice "panoramas"  on my wall......

Well, a part of your answer is that you can save your layout as a print template and LR will indeed remember.

yes and no...LR remembers the layout for printing but it does not remember that a specific picture was printed using such layout.  This means that if, for instance, you printed a 3:2 image as 2:3, i.e. you found, when in the Print module,  that a portrait output would be more interesting than a landscape one (of course you are printing only a part of the entire picture in this case), it will be impossible to reproduce the same output in the future, as there is no record about how the original image was positioned in the layout. The only way would be to make a virtual copy and crop accordingly, but this is another story...... 

and by the way, the most important question is if stretching the original picture in different ways produces a significant degradation of the final output....

Not sure why you don't just crop the photo to the 2:1 ratio before sending it to the print module? Then LR will save that crop indefinitely.

Actually the printing is included in the History panel.

yes, the history shows that the image was printed but not HOW it was printed, i.e. which layout was used.  But, following the above advise, now I create virtual copies for those images that I want to print as a panorama and crop accordingly (2:1), so that I can conserve the original 35mm and have also the "panoramic" view.  By the way: anyone knows how much one can stretch an image from a 12Mp file (D300) before degrading its quality? I am thinking about something like 60x30 cm or 80x40 cm as final printed output
