That is a very powerful composition and post-processing. The foreground can exist almost by itself, without the castle. The only nitpick would be the white halo around the line separating the sky from the middle ground. I would also go for a slightly more menacing sky (darker). In any case, an excellent rendering.

I agree - I really like the composition. Perhaps I would have pulled up the shadows a bit more but that's just a personal choice. Well done.

Thanks Slobodan....the halo effect has been a bit of a pain, its is iam pleased to say natural from the sun rather than a processing error, but still distracts from the image i know....i will have a look in PS and see if i can reduce it further Thanks for crit Shaun |

I think it's a superb shot, showing beautifully how daunting the approach to the castle would have been for potential attackers.
It's a shame the railings are so visible, but there's not much you could reasonably do about that. I'm not sure about darkening the sky any further: it's already only a very little brighter than the ground and you risk making the whole composition unbalanced.

Sorry, I was unclear. I wasn't suggesting darkening the sky but rather lightening up the shadows in the left and right mid-ground a bit.

I think this a great shot! Love the textures and the complexity of midtones. The halo is unfortunate but by no means a downer to the image. I have found that the majority of people never notice those things even though it may eat some of us up inside. Keep up the good work!

I happen to like the fence as a device to lead the eye more easily toward the castle. And I like the sky as-is. Great shot and post.
I should add that the fence is a bit eerie also and it infers that it will protect folks from falling onto the dangerous rocks below.

Hi Phil...re the halo effect ..yes sometimes i try to achieve this effect to draw the eye...people see things differently thats for sure...it mildly bugs me (lol)...if i get chance ill see if i can sort it cheers shaun |

Hi Lou A fence seems to split opinion about 70-30 thus far in favour of keep it in......i dont think it ever struck me as needing to go i sort of like it, however i know what people mean.....everything else in the image is natural elements. Like your thoughts on protectionist element thanks for feedback Shaun |

A very nice image, I like it a lot! Composition and treatment are both excellent.
For me, this image has two strong focal points: the castle at the background, and the rocks at the immediate foreground; if this image was mine, I would try to make them even stronger. First, the zone of rocks between the foreground and the castle could be a bit darker, and then I would lighten the castle. Just my two cents.
