I am sorry to announce that Greece has lost another of its great capitals, THEODOROS ANGELOPOULOS the multiple winner of Cannes festival during the last three decades, a true master among directors of "quality Euro-culture of film making" passed away later tonight, after a tragic accident. Mr. Angelopoulos was walking back home from filming when he was killed by a motorcycle rider that , ironically, is a policeman and is also treated on hospital "in crucial condition". Our greatest sympathy for his family, but mostly to the small family of TRUE film makers that has shrunken further...

This is just to correct a small inaccuracy of the above, he wasn't walking home after filming, but the accident happened while he was directing.
Mr. Angelopoulos was awarded with many prizes, among them: "One of the 10 best films ever", "Best film in the world" (twice) and has been praised as "best world director" by many cinema dedicated magazines. Although this may differ from one critic committee to another, he always was considered for the prize among all committees. I was watching yesterday the interview of Willem Dafoe as to why he accepted to work for much less in a film that would surely sale less.... and was impressed by his honesty. He doesn't like Hollywood, he would wish to work with people like Theodoros Angelopoulos and make REAL FILMS that can benefit real people living real life. Regards, Theodoros. www.fotometria.gr

Today was the funeral.... I think Akira Kurosawa said it all when he was informed of Theodore's loss... "one of the few men in the world that could record silence when looking through their lens"! Compare this with the noise some people produce to convince others on how they should live their lives... Regards, Theodoros. www.fotometria.gr
