This is just to correct a small inaccuracy of the above, he wasn't walking home after filming, but the accident happened while he was directing.
Mr. Angelopoulos was awarded with many prizes, among them: "One of the 10 best films ever", "Best film in the world" (twice) and has been praised as "best world director" by many cinema dedicated magazines. Although this may differ from one critic committee to another, he always was considered for the prize among all committees. I was watching yesterday the interview of Willem Dafoe as to why he accepted to work for much less in a film that would surely sale less.... and was impressed by his honesty. He doesn't like Hollywood, he would wish to work with people like Theodoros Angelopoulos and make REAL FILMS that can benefit real people living real life. Regards, Theodoros.
