Cannot open .NEF files with appropriate software.

All of a sudden, I cannot seem to open .NEF image files with either Photoshop CS4 or Nikon's Capture NX.  Photoshop's alert reads: Could not complete your request because of a program error.  Capture NX simply says it cannot open this file...
I've tried the SD media card in a friend's computer without any problems in either program. There seems to be a common glitch regardless of which software I use within my laptop. Any suggestions?

What happens if you import the files on your friend's computer, copy them to an external hard drive or the cloud, and try to open them on your computer?

As I don't have access to my friend's computer, I would really like to resolve this problem on mine, but thanks for the tip.

CS4 and Capture NX aren't using the same code to import your files. Therefore, if they both complain, they probably see wrong data. Since the import works on your friend's computer, the actual data seems to be ok. You could also try another card reader instead of the internal card reader I assume you are using. Good luck!
