When posting in these forums, there is a checkbox for "Return to this topic": what does it do?

P. S. I greatly approve of the addition of a "no smileys" option: smiley keyboard shortcuts used to mess up some uses of parentheses.

When posting in these forums, there is a checkbox for "Return to this topic": what does it do?
I think when it's checked it will return you to the thread you were posting in, so that you can admire the beauty of your new post.
If you uncheck that box, maybe it will just assume you are finished with that thread and close it. I just unchecked the box so I'll what (if anything) happens with this post.

Well, when I unchecked the box, it returned me to the index for the "About This Site" section of the forum, instead of to the thread where I posted.

Not terribly exciting, but that seems to be what it does.
