Dunedin nz

Will be in nz most of April, mostly north island with friends. Wanted to see some of south island. Need contacts for sheep ranch stay near dunedin and also want to see penguins and seals. With a walking disability would I be able to get near enough to penguin and seals. Are there guides to the rookeries? Thanks for any advice.

And a lovely morning in Christchurch. 
If you are travelling by car at all I'd also suggest Oamaru. You can ask any of the locals in the heritage part of town and they will show you where penguins nest near the buildings. No need to pay.

You may want to visit the Albatross Colony which is a few miles from Dunedin. This is more of a eco-treat than a photo op.

Your best bet for seeing wildlife is Kaikoura with opportunities to see seals/sea lions, whales dolphins and albatross (perhaps even an orca or two).

You can see seals/sea lions on a tour of Milford Sound which is also great for photography.

Penguins go out to sea at dawn and return at dusk. A penguin tour will let you see the young and the sick penguins. Though I think even the young may be old enough to go to sea in April. Your best bet of seeing penguins would be in the International Antarctic Centre Christchurch.

It's autumn/fall in NZ in april expect to see a lot of yellow.

I don't have much time so it seems like Dunedin has the best options for a variety of wildlife.  Stil waiting to hear from anyone with a farmstay.

I've been to Kaikoura and Dunedin twice and I'd pick Kaikoura if you want to see wildlife. There are plenty of Eco-tour options there. I saw more in one morning there than the four days in Dunedin (whales, dolphins, seals and albatros).

The Point B&B sounds like something you might want to check out in terms of farmstays though I have not stayed there myself.

It's a scenic drive up there and the town has a panoramic backdrop.

I was once in Kaikoura a few years ago about found it to be simply incredible for marine wildlife. I cannot even remember how many different types of dolphins we saw, sperm whales too.

Best farmstays scenery wise would be Central Otago - (Queenstowns - Wanaka area). 3 -3.5 hours drive from Dunedin.

Mid April there is great autumn colors around Arrowtown.

The Catlins, 1.5 - 2hrs south of Dunedin is a great spot for Waterfalls, Yellow eyed penguins, NZ Sealions and a petrified forest on the beach.
