Upresing Fuji S2 raw files to print in 16x20

I would like to print in 16x20 some photos I took a few years back with a Fuji S2. The raw files are 12.6 Mb but they are actually 6 Mb res files using a default interpolation upres (they can be extracted as 6 or 12 Mb tiffs). So my question is: would it be better to extract the files in 6 Mb and then up res them in Photoshop, or in the default upresed size? Thanks in advance! Marie

Depending upon the quality, sharpness and subject, you should still get a decent print from your Fuji RAW file. I've 16x20's from the original 1D as well as an original Olympus E10. But, the subject matter partially allowed for it.

I would use the 12mp if you can.  I still occasionally use some of my S2 raws and always try to start with the
12mp version 1st.  I can't remember what LR converts them to, 6 or 12.  As I recall in camera raw, you could get
to the 12mp conversion, but I am not sure anymore.

Hi Marie,

12mp, because it's the only way to not lose recorded data that is captured on a 45 degree rotated sensor. It's not full 12mp data, but it requires more than 6mp for the horizontal/vertical dimension.

The s2 files were really outstanding for it's day in a world of 6MP cameras. They actually resolved about 8MP. Use Adobe RAW converter. Set file size for largest available. Select an appropriate sharpening setting, I've used around 60-90 depending on the image. You should be able to get very good 16x20's, no further uprezing necessary.
