It is most expertly lit and exposed, but the picture needs simplifying. You have two subjects in it, left and right, competing for the viewer's attention. As a consequence, the eye does not come to rest and the effect is not satisfying. Imagine a crop to produce a portrait format picture of the left hand subject, and perhaps you will see how recomposing your frame might have improved the end result.

Not to start an argument but a discussion: I wonder if this is one of those images for which it works to break the rules? I see the competition between left and right, but the leaves along the bottom hold the image together, establishing a sort of tension: two competing images, but parts of a whole at the level of the greenery....

Indeed.. great image.. and perhaps it is one of those images that you need to stand back just a bit further so that your eyes can collect both the left and right without moving about? If you're sitting at a computer, move back a foot or two if you find your eyes torn between left and right... |

Welcome to the list! Fine image, and I agree with the camp that says this image needs to be appreciated from a bit of a distance, taking in the whole rather than trying to decide between the parts.

Hi,
thanks for the time and the thoughts you spend on this picture.
When I took the photo (of course with a little help of a 1D Mk3 and a EF 100mm f/2,8 cl) I recognized too the possible division in two parts, but then I realized the connection between the two tulips by the green leaves, their form and lightning. And that's why I took the picture as it is.
And yes, it is true: some distance is necessary to appreciate it at 100%.
