After upgrading from LR3 to LR4 I've been hitting a problem when printing to roll paper.
I saw something same kind by others.

I have Epson 9900, Mac 10.6.8 and LR 4.1

Again today I was printing for a long time to 61 cm roll with page sizes
61 cm x 80 cm and 61 cm x 50 cm on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta. No problems!

Then I started with same paper roll at 61cm x 70 cm (only changing the page size).

I can see the print correctly on screen, but printing stops somewhere in the middle and
cuts the page.

This has happened when using using LR 4.0

I have changed the margins to equal (all to zero).

Again I'm confused. What is the settings that really works?

I'll start tomorrow with cheaper paper. It's just frustrating as I'd need to
print also some long panos and wouldn't like to try several times and destroying
canvas and rolls of expensive paper.

I'm starting my printer in maintenance mode. I'll try it in normal mode if nothing else
helps.

Any ideas or working settings?

thanks, Kirmo

Not sure what your problem is - but to save wasting so much paper can I suggest that when you go to the print dialogue page that you hit the 'Preview' tab first.  This will then bring up an image that shows how your picture will look on the printed page.  That way you can usually see if the layout will print correctly.

My 9900 was one of the first ones here in Finland.
I've printed thousands of prints with this. Mostly
with LR 3. The normal problems with clogging and
faulty maintanance people not knowing what to do.

The last went quite well. Nothing like this ever with LR3.

After upgrading to LR 4 I'm hitting this problem.
Not every time but this is the third time.

So I print, say 30x40 sized print on the roll of 61cm.
All is ok. so my page size is 61x35.

Then I only change the page size to 61x80 and
on the print screen resize my picture. Now all looks
good on the screen. All the sizes match.

I press "print one" and the printing starts.
All looks good, until somewhere in the middle the printer
stops printing and cuts the page. I get one print where page
size is say 61x50 and the print is only partly on the page.

Jim. I don't see any "preview" when in LR print tab.
I always use "print one".

Also I have pre-sets and use these. So I really only change the page
size.

I'm about to start more testing. We have had some storms and
the electricity is on/off. Hope now all is calm.

Well, I guess the last hope is to go back to LR3 and re-do all the
files. I still have it on my disk.

The 'Preview' button is in the printer driver, so I use Print in Lightroom and not Print One.  Is it possibly that your picture is not orientated correctly on the paper?  Because of the various software permutations it is frustrating not to be able to help more - I use a Canon printer.

Some more info.

Jim, I guess this is for Epson printers!
With pre-sets and "Print one" I don't need to answer check every time
"millions" of things. Just makes things easy when it works with "Print One".

So I again triet to print page size 61x70cm and only got a page 50cm
and the picture was only partly printed.

Changed ONE thing. In "Print Settings" I changed "Roll Paper" --> "Roll Paper - Banner"
Double checked that the change was done. NOTHING ELSE changed.

The print came out correctly.

So I'll try to keep notes what works and what doesn't work.

For some of my background.

For > 30 years I did too much software developent and have written plenty
of code. I fully understand that programs like LR have bugs. It's the nature of
human to make errors. I can live with this. It just makes life easier to know
what works and what doesn't.

There's a bug somewhere, but so far I haven't fenced where?

I'll continue now with better paper.

Question: Which of these do you normally use with roll paper

    "Roll Paper"
    "Roll Paper - Banner"
    "Roll Paper - Bordless Banner"
   ...

thanks,  Kirmo

ps. Now the prints are coming correctly!

Not sure why the roll==banner fixed the problem, but I have always had concerns when making larger prints with the Epson
driver.

Your problem on the cut off more than likely comes down to either the printer driver, or LR spooling the job.  As Jim pointed out, you can
test the Spooling of the job correctly by looking at the "print preview window".  If the image shown there is full then the job being sent to the
printer is correct.  The print preview button in on the last screen before you hit print.  I agree that it's always a good thing to check it.

If the job shows correctly in the preview but you still get the printer cutting it off short, then it's more than likely something in the printer since
the job has been spooled up correctly.  This could be many things, network connection, USB cable, PC (or Mac).  One thing I will often due is
under printer preferences I will tell the print to send the job in raw format.  This seems to help on longer jobs.

On my system, I recently ran into just the opposite problem.  On a 35" x 85" print, when I printed from CS3 or CS5 when I viewed the print in the
print preview I only had about the 1st 50" of the print showing, however the print preview displayed the entire page size (in this case 89" long which
was a custom page size I had created).  I knew from past experience that I would get just that, 50"  of image and then the printer would advance the rest
of the canvas to the end of the page leaving white space.  Nothing I did could fix this, reloaded the printer driver, reconfigured the prints, etc.  However by
printing from LR4, I was able to get a good print preview which displayed the entire image correctly and the corresponding print looked fine.  So
for that job I was glad to have LR4 installed.

That yours worked correctly with banner is surprising and something I will keep in mind for my next large print that displays incorrectly.

After I had used my roll of Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta. I changed to different type
of paper and printed one pano 61cm x 180 cm. Different problems here, clogging,
but the whole print came out.

Some time ago I made an 60 cm x 580 cm with LR3.

Again I still don't know all of the symptoms. But somehow I remember that earlier
when I changed from roll paper --> roll paper - banner that I later again got same
thing that the print came out only partly. And again changing this to original "roll paper"
fixed the problem. But I didn't make notes of all settings.

Some how I feel it's in the page size settings and remember I'm using CENTIMETERS!
Maybe the people in USA (who has made the code) have not tested so well this part.
As you deal with INCHES.

I used to work with Oracle and we had always probelms with character sets because we
have also a with dots () o with dots () ...

I'm keeping now notes of what works!

From "Print One" it's just so much easier to print, no need to give more info.

Still an issue for me.

This mystery comes up again. Actually I never succeeded in making an canvas print
of 61 x 320 cm. I did with my cheap paper!
I have a number of too short canvas prints now ready to go into trash! Would really need to make
one for the exhibition.

A month went smoothly and I managed to make a bunch of exhibition prints (60 x 80).

As again yesterday trying to make a 60x80 print and getting a 60x70.

A mystery with no clue what is happening. So finally I'm putting my hands up and giving up.
I installed Mirage software yesterday and the first print was already at correct size.

Hi Kirmo

I have encountered the same problem my way out (temporary as I need to print through LR & CS) was also to install Mirage - see    http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?topic=70422.0

Did you ever resolve this issue ?

Regards
