For those considering the D800 for action photography, it's proving to be excellent for providing high quality sports images alongside the D4. Good camera and lens techniques (especially operating cumbersome super telephoto lenses) have always been essential, including back in the days of 35mm Velvia rated at 40 ISO.

Neither stock shot has been cropped, closer view of player taken with a Nikkor 600mm f/4 lens at an aperture of F/5, other picture Nikkor 200mm f/2 lens.  Professional tennis players' move their head upwards very quickly whilst serving, requiring at least 1/1000 sec, or even faster for added security. On this occasion 1/1000 sec was risky but fortunately just enough to keep the eyes 'sharpish'.

Only basic adjustments in Lightroom V4 - his eyes are naturally very white - no photoshop work re eyes, etc.

Some cool A0 posters of tennis players on their way! Smiley

Thanks for sharing.

It seems that Mr. Gasquet played pretty solid.

Cheers,

Who said the D800 can't focus!  Awesome performance for a camera that approaches DMF IQ at one tenth the cost.
