Hi Simon,

I feel I must jump in here. It looks like you made your case (107050) on a weekend (we don't work weekends) but you got a response within our target response time.

If you didn't get an email notification for updates, check your spam folder for noreply@phaseone.com or log in to your account and go to "tech support cases" to see your case history.

We are all human despite what you may think and mistakes happen, but I see no reason in this case for the comments.

Hello Simon,

I have no connection with Phase with the exception of having used their conversion software since v1 on the Mac. On the rare occasions over the past 9 years when I have had to contact them (rare because of the reliability of their software), I have almost always had a prompt and courteous reply. I'm sorry that this has not been your experience.

Hi Simon,

You seem to have been atypically unlucky in this instance in not getting a quick response from Phase One.

I can only concur with Ralph's comment and say in their defence that I have always found their support department extremely helpful and responsive to both bug reports and feature requests, and usually a model of what customer support should be.

For what it's worth, I've been hoping for Nikon LiveView support in C1 for some while and have raised a separate support request, which may add a little further weight to yours.

As mentioned in the thread the support case was answered quickly. Likely the response is sitting in a spam folder.

I sympathize with Simon's frustration. It sucks when you think a company isn't listening or answering you when you contact them. In this case likely because of a technical glitch (20 years later and email still ain't perfect).

It's also frustrating when a program doesn't have a feature you really would like or would be very valuable in your day to day workflow. I do not at all share Simon's gloomy view that Phase doesn't care (it helps when you've met in person those people and know they live/work/dream Capture One) nor his view that this feature is never ever going to happen. I don't know for sure one way or the other, but I do know it's a widely requested feature, and that since version 4.0 I've seen many (maybe even most) widely requested features implemented.

Simon, you did receive a reply to your support case, a few business hours after you made it (though this meant after the weekend has passed).

Also, Jim from the Danish P1 office went out of his way to explain on this thread that you received a response and to correct your earlier post regarding your support case #, which is 107050, not 8002945 as you stated earlier. This case # is shown when you submit your support case, as shown by my support case earlier in this thread.

Likely the notification of that response is sitting in a spam folder in your email or was otherwise blocked by your email program/server. Spam filters on email is one reason why the support cases are run through your account on the phaseone.com website rather than functioning through direct email - your own email service can block emails, but it can't change the phase one website. Simply log on to your phase one account and go to [My Account > Tech Support Cases] and then click on the case #.

Saying you've not gotten a response is not correct. Both myself and a P1 employee have directed you on this thread to what was likely happening (spam filter blocking the notification that phase one replied to your support case).

If you still have questions after reading this, and re-reading the thread, I'd be happy to screen share with you and take you through the proces of logging on to P1's website and going to your account and viewing their response (as discussed above). Just call me at the office during US business hours.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for all your help but to be honest I am completely over the whole experience as I have more important matters like having a life to concern myself with what I thought was a simple question.

Yes Jim from Phase did make some sort of comment  but in classic political spin still didn't answer my question.

There has been 3639 views on this subject which tells me there are a lot of photographers who would also like to now if Phase are going to make live video available for Nikon and Canon in Capture One.

Simon, Ive been using the canon version of this for years.  I use it to tether and use C1 watching the capture folder.  Very solid software, at least the Canon version and works well on both mac and windows as I use both.

With every post you write I find myself more baffled about what your problem is: Capture One does provide tethering support for Nikon and Canon cameras, and they're very clear about which ones they support: at no point so far have you articulated which camera(s) you're using, and in fact it's only now clear to me since you've referenced "controlmynikon" that it's tethering you're actually worried about.

Seems to me that you're your own worst enemy, and that a bit more time actually spent researching and less time ranting, might have gotten you further, faster.

Why has Phase not taken a firm position on this request and offered a clear and unambiguous response?

Email Adobe, Apple, or any other major software company a question about whether they will be providing a new feature in the future.

You will get a kind reply verifying that the feature in question is not available in the current version and stating they logged your interest in that feature (which they almost surely have) for future versions of their software.

Whether or not we will see Live Video for dSLRs in Capture One 7 will not be public until Capture One 7 is public. Such is the case for nearly all software from nearly all companies.

The reasons include (having been a programmer myself before photography entered my life):
- Keeping your roadmap secret from competitors especially given the nuances of patent laws and the speed at which market share can change with software (a few clicks and typing your CC number means you've switched software)
- When developing a feature you cannot know for sure that it will work or will "make the cut" until it does, so promising you will provide a certain feature before it is 100% ready is a big risk. If you promise something and can't deliver you are a rotten misleading bastard making vaporware; if you don't promise it and then release it everyone is happy.

Deciding when exceptions to the above two rules should be made tends to get complicated, so most software companies simply stay silent about all future features except those that are available in public betas (e.g. LR4 Beta or iOS 6 beta).

While not a "clear and unambiguous" reply (I've just explained why that's not possible), nor a reply which comes direct from Phase One, I can state that Phase One considers tethered workflow (for both dSLRs and it's own digital backs) to be extremely central to the purpose of Capture One. Clearly any feature which aids in an improved tethered workflow is of great interest to the developers. Whether and when any specific feature is added depends on several variables, only a few of which are obvious to end users.

If you go back to the beginning I clearing state.

I am fully aware the you can shot a Nikon tethered to Capture One as I am using a Nikon D3X and Nikon D800E with Capture One.

So my so called rant as you say is not about shooting tethered it was a question about live video for Nikon and Canon.

So get your facts straight before jumping in buddy.

Anyway I  know this whole exercises is pointless cause I am 99% certain what the answer is going to be.

Well here is your 1% doubt...

Capture One 7 provides dSLR live view. Effort was put into developing this based on user feedback like this thread.

great news! if it works.
while it hasn't worked (5dIII tethering OSX 10.Cool using eos utility i have been able to write to card in the camera as well as the computer.
if C1 7 does this im upgrading straight away.
