Native gamma profile with i1Display Pro

Jeff,
   reading your "Digital Negative" book I found a chapter were you talk about settings and strategies about display profiling.
For your laptop (a MBP I presume) you wrote you use an i1Display Pro and you profile with native gamma setting to reduce banding artifacts.

i1Profiler doesn't currently support native gamma profiling, so I suppose you use a 3rd party software.
May you better explain the procedure?

In my copy of i!Profile in the main Default Display Settings under the White Point I set it to D-65 and Luminance I set it to Native, Once you are in the Measurement window after the measurements have been taken if you have ADC enabled (not sure how to disable it on Mountain Lion) the ability to vary the Display Hardware Setup is dimmed (disabled) so you can't set the gamma to native. Just go ahead and make the ICC profile. So, in the case of i1Profiler on MacBook Pros, you can't realty control the native gamma...but you can with other display profiling software. Note: I NEVER make any color/tone critical decisions on a laptop display so it's not really a big thing for me.

Setting a native gamma isn't possibile under any circumstance. Xrite told me ha it's on their wish list but the don't have any schedule.
So, that line on the book should read: if you don't have a MacBook or you don't use i1Profiler so try to profile in native gamma, otherwise go straight on.
Is it right?

We agree on the last sentence.  Never make critical decision on a laptop display. I rely on a Dell U2711.
