So this surface is so fragile and I am quite concerned about disturbing it.
Any thoughts on a protective spray?

There are a few options.  PremierArt Printshield and ClearJet Solvent spray which can work on Dye, Pigment and Solvent medias.  We carry both of these products as well as the roll on versions.

Platine "toughens up" after about six hours, but I try to not coat it until it has sat at least 12 hours. I use PremierArt Print Shield and Hahnemühle Protective Spray.

Platine is not a baryta paper, so its surface is actually more robust than those of Baryta Photographique and Gold Fibre Silk.  Still, it can scratch if one does not take care in the handling.  I have never bothered to coat my Platine prints.  How do you usually store your prints, and why do you think that they might be prone to damage?
