I relearned a technique that for one reason or another, I haven't used in awhile...but Slobodan used this on another boat shot and I went back for a revisit to see if I could knock down the contrast in the original shot..and by golly, I think it worked.

I just used an inversion layer, blend mode to soft, opacity to 62%. I did do some selective masking within the layer as well where I wanted either more or less contrast.

I like the revised version. There's more softness in that image, it conveys a more relaxing mood.

Agree - the softer version is more calming to the eye I think.

If you're using Lightroom then I often find that a touch of negative clarity can help achieve a similar effect, and can be applied locally using either the graduated filters or the adjustment brush.
