I guess the MM will still be better, which could explain the price difference.
It would be hard to justify to pay 1000 bucks more if you can get better B&W results with the new M in 3 months from now.

I think the new M is going to be a killer color camera with very good low light capabilities. I really like a camera that is only B&W for my personal work. I have shot one commercial assignment with it and I can see a couple of annual reports coming this next year where i will be able to use it. I am anxous to see what hte new M-E will look like once Leica gets the new CMOS technology cranking in the new M. I'm guessing we will probably see one in the next couple years.

I have a sneaking feeling the MM with the CCD sensor with a non Bayer filter will be a classic. I am just hoping that this happens sometime after the M comes out, I have no intention of trading my M9-P for a new M but adding a MM is very appealing as at least 90% of my shots are B&W.

I have the same feeling, however, in the digital world, it is very hard to become a classic ! Mostly, you are just old technology, just like my first Sinclair computer I bought in 1980.

The sad part is everything is made now with a usable shelf life. I mean the gadget train is a must now because the companies stop supporting things after so long. For me 18MPs is plenty big.

True.
I heard recently in a Leica store that if you have a problem with your M8 sensor / electronics, it cannot be fixed anymore.
They will give you an upgrade proposal, because they can't get it fixed anymore.

I beg to differ, the Sinclair is indeed a classic.  The difference in the digital age is that the classics are no longer really functional as tools. |

That stinks.....  I guess when the technology moves on so does the ability to make the older stuff. Sad because I had my 500 C/Ms for a couple decades. No reason to upgrade. |

From all what I have seen , it seems to be a great camera for portraits and for urban shooting.
Not sure, it is superior in landscape.
Any thoughts?
