The "bokeh crop" surprises me, right image showing more DoF. May have to do with wavy curvature of field?

is the 3rd one(far right).  I prefer the sharpness and less noise. I almost would take the color from the middle shot, however.

I prefer the orange in the left image, and overall still marginally the left image, but I don't care for the background much in either the left or centre.

Thanks for comment. Don't really understand your statement on distance to the background. Nothing moved except that tripod mount was used on two of the lenses. Distance to subject was 3.8 m from camera, so I think difference matters little.


It's interesting to see that almost all posters prefer the left image.

yeah, my mistake. I am thinking of the registration distance on the back being longer so narrower angle of light to the sensor. Making the shot look the same would require a movement of the tripod. That is wrong.

So you are using 150mm fl approx for all shots. So the bokeh difference on the lettering is a parameter of the lens design not the distance. Its surprising to me as sony lenses are usually pretty good on that. Still, the hassy lens looks quite a bit better.

Exposure was essentially the same on all.

The right one (Sony) has wider DOF, so as a landscaper, I would prefer it for that reason. -
It will be interesting to see a test in the corners of a full frame camera.

On that set I see the 70-400 looking about a couple stops higher f number. It looks like an f 5.6 to f 8 difference.

The hassy is showing chromatic aberration, not bad but definitely a distraction on specular highlights. The other 2 lenses seem properly controlled. The 200 2.8 still seems to want to form a double hard edge in the bokeh. Does that lens have a microadjuster? My 300 f4G has a ring that turns to slightly adjust the relationship between the elements.
