catalog question

I have been using C1 V7 and with the catalogs, I am getting used to using it for raw files and processing so I am getting ready to start using it more and more. So my question is, when I import files into a catalog from their current location, in the panel on the left structure of the catalog is automatically sets this to date and time I imported the files as the entry in the database. What I want it to show is the file path to the directory of images. I don't care when they were imported and that does nothing to help me know what is in that group of images. I want to use the folder name as that has the date of capture and the location. Any easy way to do this, I cannot find anywhere to change what is shown as the entry in the catalog.

The Library tab for a catalog is broken up into three sections:
- Catalog Collection
- User Collections
- Folders

What you are asking for is already there in the third section. Just look a bit further down :-).

If desired you can right click on "folders" and opt to have it show the entire hierarchy rather than just the names of the end folders. I prefer the default behavior because my folder names all have sufficient (abbreviated) information about year, category, and subject to stand alone, but if you use the directory tree for organizational cues then you may wish to show the hierarchy.

There are also albums, collections, and metadata filtering by which to organize your images abstractly (not directly related to their place on the hard drive).

And if you will be spending a lot of time organizing and editing your images in Capture One you may want to consider how much of your time/frustration could be saved by doing a formal training class in Capture One whether in person or via the web.

Doug Thanks for the response. I have checked the folder hierarchy and I get nothing. All I get is the first section is the date and time of the import, which is meaningless to me. I import the files from their current location and do not have C1 move them. my current structure is
/2013 images/2013 Jan 01 landscapes    that is a rough example. If  I import the files from their current location, the first section of the catalog shows and entry for the date and time I import them. If I click to show hierarchy in the third section, there is nothing that shows up. What I want to show up is "2013 Jan 01 Landscapes", that is what I see in Lightroom and that makes it easier for me to find what I am looking for. Having the date and time of import is useless, it has no relation to the shoot, as it may be days or weeks later before they are added to the catalog.

I have seen the videos as well, I will rewatch them.

That is what you should see in the Folders area of the library tab. Is the tab expanded (the arrow facing down rather than over)? Are you 100% sure you imported with the files staying in their locations rather than being drawn into the main catalog? Otherwise I can't think of why you wouldn't see the list of folders in that area, and I would suggest contacting your dealer or Phase One support for assistance troubleshooting.

Check this: in the Import Images dialog > Import To section > Store Files > ?

Wat did you select in that field?
- Inside Catalog
- Current Location

With Inside Catalog, you have no reference to the original location after import. The Folders section in the Library only show the Catalog item.
With Current Location, your images are referenced in the catalog. The Folders section in the Library show your disk name, a green or red sign next to it (online/offline mark) and can be expanded to show the folders, with or without hierarchy.

My guess is that you accidentally have chosen the Inside Catalog option.
