Epson 3880 Borderless Prints and Custom Sizes

I have an Epson 3880 and have a printing question about custom sizes and borderless printing. The printer is capable of printing a borderless 17" x 22" print. Clearly the printer can print the full 17" width. I want to make a print that is 17" x 23" with no border. I was thinking of cutting a sheet 17" x 25" from a roll and trimming it to 23" after printing. Is it possible to get the Epson 3880 to print all the way to the edge of the 17" sheet at any other length other than 22"? If so, how do I set this up?

As a rule, custom borderless sizes are not possible.  Epson sets the borderless options at the factory.  While you can create a user defined paper size, there is no way to direct the printer to make them borderless as well.

Does that mean that even if you use a RIP you cannot create a custom borderless size?

The borderless length should be adjustable by a RIP.  It's the width component that usually cannot be "hacked" because of the placement of the over-spray pads on the platen.  You'd want to check with your RIP maker.

From the Epson Europe site for the 3880 with Mirage RIP: "Produce borderless photos from 4" up to 17" wide and any length you define, up to 37.4"."
