Does anyone know if the wide angle adapter would be required to use an 80mm Schneider Super-Symmar XL on a 4x5 Linhof Technika camera?

My guess is you probably do not need it. I'm using a 75mm Grandagon on my Tech IV with a 10mm recessed lens board and there is enough room to get the front standard out about half way onto the bed - or in other words enough bite to hold on for focusing from the bed. I have the wide angle adapter but wanted to use my 75mm rangefinder cam.

The technika wide angle adapter was made for 65 mm wide angle.
80 mm can be used with recessed lensboard or flat, depens on how you like to work.
you can use all wide angle lenses even 47 mm on the technika. You must focus with the hand on the inner bed. It is not the best solution but is work.

forgot to add that with the 75mm, the bed will get into the image when in portrait mode, but not when in landscape mode. Probably the 80 will as well. It may be possible to drop the bed to one of the lower positions and have it not show but this creates a work around. I am pleased that I can shoot with the 75mm and use the rangefinder.

Indeed, it is an important point, what Erick mention. Even with 90 mm lens in portrait mode it is important to put the bed in lower position.
Only Zeiss Biogon 75 mm can be used without this problems, spacial lens made for linhof technika. This is the only realy wide lens were the bed dont come into the picture.
